The Position: One full time tenure-track position in Modern Dance at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall 2011. The Dance department offers BA and BFA degrees with concentrations in Ballet, Jazz and Modern Dance. Students perform with the resident Conservatory Dance Company in five mainstage productions each year. The dance program at Point Park University is professionally oriented, and all students accepted into the program should expect a level of training and discipline that reflects this intensity. The Dance department is part of the Conservatory of Performing Arts, along with departments in Theatre, and Cinema and Digital Arts. Faculty members are expected to participate in advising, Faculty Assembly, university committees, auditions and student activities.
Requirements: An MFA degree in Dance with emphasis in Modern, a minimum of five years experience teaching Horton, Cunningham, or Limon technique, and a professional performance background including three years with an established dance company. Must be able to teach all levels of modern dance technique choreograph and/or stage works from repertoire. Applicants with teaching ability and experience in the following areas will be given further consideration: Somatics, Pilates, Repertoire, Contemporary Partnering, Choreography, Pedagogy, Anatomy, Composition, Kinesiology, or Dance History.
