Assistant Professor of Psychology

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Psychology

Point Park University’s Department of Psychology seeks an Assistant Professor of Psychology (tenure-track) with expertise in clinical or counseling psychology. The Point Park Psychology Department is a growing department with traditional undergraduate students as well as MA and PsyD programs in Clinical-Community Psychology. With a broadly humanistic orientation grounded in an ethics of social justice and human dignity, the university is located in downtown Pittsburgh, PA, providing ample opportunities for community engagement. The PsyD program is seeking APA-accreditation and has received approval from the Commission on Accreditation for intent to apply.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

The successful candidate will be prepared to teach PsyD, MA, and undergraduate courses in Psychology. When applying, applicants should speak to their interest and ability in teaching courses such as Qualitative Research, Quantitative Research and Statistics, Lifespan Development, and Neuropsychology.  The faculty hire will serve as a Core Faculty member in the PsyD program and will be ultimately involved in clinical and research supervision of PsyD students. At least 50% of their academic responsibilities will be directly related to the PsyD program (e.g., teaching, providing clinical supervision, serving on dissertation committees). As such, qualified candidates will have a doctorate in psychology (PsyD acceptable) from an APA-approved doctoral program, and be licensed, or license-eligible (i.e., completed required post-doctoral experience), as a psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania. Preferred candidates will have a theoretical orientation consistent with the Department’s predominant philosophies (i.e., transpersonal, constructivist, psychoanalytic/dynamic, humanistic, existential, post-structural, social constructionist, phenomenological). The successful candidate should also have an appreciation of intersectionality, and a professional interest in, for example, social justice, feminism, critical race theory, class issues, ageism, queer theory, or other perspectives on human diversity and difference, broadly defined.  All areas of research expertise are welcome.
