Assistant Professor of Special Education

About the University:

The Position:
The Graduate Program in Special Education at Point Park University, Department of Education announces a full time, tenure track faculty position in Special Education beginning August 2013.  Our preference is to hire at the assistant professor level, but consideration will be given to established scholars at the rank of associate professor, if the candidate’s qualifications are particularly well matched to our needs. 

Qualifications include (a) a preference of an earned doctoral degree in special education or closely related field (or defense of dissertation completed by employment start date), (b) established record, or evidence of potential for research and scholarship in a variety of content areas in Special Education, (c) preference for a candidate with experience in college teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, (d) membership and leadership activities in professional organizations pertaining to individuals with disabilities, (e) experience in supervising undergraduate and graduate candidates in field placements, (f) a minimum of three years of demonstrated excellence in teaching and leadership in special education settings, grades K-12, and (g) established record or evidence of successful recruitment efforts with respect to graduate level candidates.

Responsibilities include (a) provide guidance and leadership in the Graduate Program in Special Education through close collaboration with the Program Director of Special Education and the Department of Education Chairperson, (b) teach both graduate and some undergraduate courses in special education, (c) advise, mentor and provide research supervision to graduate students, including the supervision of graduate students in selected field experiences and practicum, (d) contribute to department, school, and college governance, (e) aid with the recruitment efforts of graduate students in Special Education and (e) develop partnerships, and work collaboratively with local school districts and community agencies.  Some teaching through online instruction may be required.
