The Position: One full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position is available to begin in Fall 2010. The Theater Department of the Conservatory of Performing Arts offers a B.F.A in technical theater/design and a B.F.A in Stage Management. Both programs focus on the training of professional theater artists in a professional environment. Technical Theater students will get the opportunity to work alongside professional artists to hone their craft and develop their artistry in a collaborative atmosphere. The Technical Theater Unit has 64 full-time students and is part of the Theater department of Point Park University's Conservatory of Performing Arts, along with departments in Cinema and Dance.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will teach Introduction and Advanced Hand Drafting, Elements of Stagecraft, Beginning and Advanced Carpentry, Advanced Computer Drafting (CAD) and Technical Direction.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree in technical theater, design or a related field; significant professional experience; and a record of successful teaching at the university level. Applicants should demonstrate an artistic skill and technical experience in design/construction and technology applications. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include committee service, student advising, mentoring, recruitment, advanced projects and managing student production assignments. The candidate shall maintain his/her professional development. The position will report to the Chair of the Department. Special consideration will be given to candidates who work/have worked professionally in theaters nationwide.
