Assistant or Associate Professor, and Department Chair, Cinema Arts
The Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor to hold the position of Chair of the Cinema Arts department. The Cinema Arts department has over 200 full-time students and is part of Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts, along with departments in Theatre and Dance. The department offers undergraduate cinema production, screenwriting, and animation and visual effects programs, and a low-residency MFA in Writing for the Screen and Stage, all of which focus on narrative storytelling and stress collaboration and specialization.
Responsibilities: The Chair of the Cinema Arts Department will provide the vision and leadership for a dynamic and growing department. Responsibilities include curriculum and program development, course scheduling, student recruitment and retention, academic advising, program assessment, budget management, strategic planning, and the recruitment, evaluation, and development of faculty and staff. Additionally, the Chair will coordinate the department’s efforts to move forward the University’s four Strategic Initiatives: Academic Excellence, Quality Student Experience, Managed Growth and Community Engagement. The Chair will work as a collaborative team member with the department faculty and staff, as well as with the Director of Academic Administration, Director of Artistic Recruitment, and the other Department Chairs in the Conservatory of Performing Arts. The standard teaching load at Point Park University is 12 credit hours. Department chairs receive 6 credit hours in release time and a stipend.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree in Animation, VFX, film production, Screenwriting, or a related field; significant professional experience; a record of successful teaching at the university level; and experience in leadership and management, preferably in higher education. Candidates without a terminal degree but with significant professional and academic experience may apply, but a terminal degree is required for a tenure-track appointment.
