Assistant Professor – Musical Theatre Voice
One full-time, tenure track position available to begin Fall 2011. The Theatre Department offers undergraduate programs in Musical Theatre, Acting and Design/Tech/Stage Management, and a graduate program in Acting. The musical theatre concentration is a rigorous training program for the professional actor/singer/dancer with a heavy emphasis placed on a strong blend of music and acting techniques. The department is part of Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts, along with departments in Cinema and Dance. Distinguishing the Conservatory is its integrated association with the Rep Company, an AEA resident company, housed in the historic Pittsburgh Playhouse.
The successful candidate will serve as Head of Private Voice, overseeing private voice instructors for musical theatre and acting students and developing the voice program. In addition to instruction, responsibilities also include student advising and committee service.
Only applicants with a terminal degree in music and, or, theatre and extensive professional experience will be considered. The ideal candidate will have a record of successful teaching at the university level and considerable experience in the professional and, or, academic theatre. Special consideration will be given to candidates who are knowledgeable in multiple styles and periods of musical theatre with technical knowledge/pedagogical skill to train students in classical and contemporary Broadway singing as preparation for careers in the industry.
