The Position: The Theatre Department in the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University is seeking a temporary full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor, who will serve as the Director of the MFA in Acting Program. This will be a two-year appointment beginning in the Fall of 2012. The theatre department is one of three departments in the Conservatory of Performing Arts. In addition to the MFA in Acting, the Theatre Department offers undergraduate programs in Musical Theatre, Acting and Design/Tech/Stage Management in a rigorous, nationally recognized training program. Distinguishing the Conservatory is its integrated association with The REP, an AEA resident company, housed in the historic Pittsburgh Playhouse. The graduate acting program is a three year, full-time sequence of studies focusing on individual artistic development and acquiring credentials to teach at the university level. The program provides a stimulating, varied and flexible curriculum to meet the needs and interests of advanced, creative students. The current class is composed of five artists who represent diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will serve as Director of the MFA in Acting program, teach in that program, and if applicable, in the undergraduate theatre program. In addition to instruction, responsibilities also include student advising and committee service.
Requirements: Only applicants with an MFA or Ph.D. degree in Acting and/or Theatre and extensive experience in the professional and/or academic theatre will be considered. The ideal candidate will have a record of successful teaching at the university level, and have experience in academic administration.
