REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs/Chair, Department of Innovative Learning

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES: Located in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, Point Park University solicits applications for online adjunct instructors, and for every discipline taught in every academic department. The delivery system is BLACKBOARD, the approach is asynchronous, global, and the terms are eight weeks in length. You will be a central part of Point Park University’s dedication to online learning and its commitment to use educational technologies in an innovative fashion. The University has recently launched an initiative to expand its array of online courses and reach a world-wide audience. Hence, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of online learning, tools and services, as well as education technologies that can be used in the classroom. S/he should be able to think strategically, independently, and flexibly about online pedagogy, as well as conceptualize and implement solutions. S/he should have a love of learning, and a passion for creating a premier online learning environment. A Ph.D. in one’s field is preferred, or subject matter expertise as demonstrated via publications, discipline-specific achievement, or teaching award-level background. Distance learning pedagogical experience also preferred, particularly in BLACKBOARD.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Quality, best practices pedagogy


  1. Employs subject matter expertise in a writing-driven environment within BLACKBOARD’s “announcements” and other venues; leads by example in analytical “discussion threads;” provides comprehensive feedback to students, and accomplishes all grading tasks in a timely manner.
  2. Assists in retention, motivates students, demonstrates teaching strengths, and welcomes both administrative and student evaluations of classroom work.
  3. Participates in the University’s three weeks-long online Instructor Orientation Course (IOC) as a prerequisite for one’s first class.
  4. Participates in upcoming online faculty development workshops; maintains an attention to detail and with willingness to perform all duties assigned.
