Position: Graduate Assistant –Print Journalism and Mass Communication Research
Department: School of Communication
Term of appointment: One-year assignment, renewable for second year, beginning with the Fall 2010 semester. Assignment is 8 months, late August until early May. Fall semester starts Aug. 30, 2010.
Salary: At least $6,400 ($3,200 per semester) annual stipend plus fully paid tuition and fees.
Requirements: Undergraduate degree in journalism, mass communication, media studies, or similar degree with professional and/or student media experience in print journalism. Working knowledge of Adobe Indesign and Photoshop required; excellent copyediting and proofreading skills required; excellent design/layout/typography skills highly desired. Applicants for this assistantship must already have been admitted into the M.A. program and must commit to enroll in a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester. The application processes for the graduate program and graduate assistantships are different and separate.
Primary duties: Graduate Assistant will assist in teaching undergraduate laboratory newsmagazine course that produces The Pioneer, in an increasingly converged classroom and publication environment. This Graduate Assistant also will assist the Graduate Programs Director with administrative tasks, and assist various faculty in academic/scholarly research activities. This Graduate Assistant might also teach undergraduate courses for additional compensation. Work 20 hours per week except during vacations and holidays.
