Graduate Assistant-School of Communications

Position opening: Graduate Assistant

Department: School of Communication

Term of appointment: One-year assignment, renewable for second year, beginning with the Fall 2013 semester. Assignment is 8 months, late August until early May.

Salary: $6,400 ($3,200 per semester) annual stipend plus fully paid tuition and fees.

Requirements: Undergraduate degree in journalism, mass communication, media studies, or similar degree. Professional and/or student media experience in journalism or mass communication field preferred. Applicants for this assistantship must already have been admitted into the M.A. program and must commit to enroll in a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester. The application processes for the graduate program and graduate assistantships are separate.

Primary duties: Graduate assistant will support areas that will include helping the School of Communication director and faculty chair with recruiting and retention efforts for the school. Duties will include creating and implementing outreach and public relations campaigns and initiatives for the school and assisting staff members and faculty in recruiting, retention and event planning and implementation. Work 20 hours per week except during vacations and holidays.
