Graduate Assistant, School of Communication

Position: Graduate Assistant - 3 positions available  

Department: School of Communication

Term of appointment: One-year assignment, renewable for second year, beginning with the Fall 2012 semester. Assignment is 8 months, late August until early May. Fall semester starts in late August.

Salary: At least $6,400 ($3,200 per semester) annual stipend plus fully paid tuition and fees.

Requirements: Undergraduate degree in journalism, mass communication, media studies, or similar degree. Professional and/or student media experience in journalism or mass communication field preferred. Applicants for this assistantship must already have been admitted into the M.A. program and must commit to enroll in a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester. The application processes for the graduate program and graduate assistantships are separate.

Primary duties: Graduate assistant will support areas that could include helping full-time and adjunct professors in grading and preparation for undergraduate courses; assisting in advising and/or operating student media organizations; working with full-time faculty in research; and performing clerical and operational tasks in the School of Communication. Depending on qualifications, this graduate assistant might also teach undergraduate courses for additional compensation. Work 20 hours per week except during vacations and holidays.
