Assistant to the Chair, Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies

POSITION:  ASSISTANT TO THE CHAIR                                               

DEPARTMENT:  Criminal Justice & Intelligence Studies, School of Arts & Sciences

REPORTS TO: Chair, Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies


Associates degree in business or office administration (bachelor’s preferred): minimum two years related work experience in an academic environment; Microsoft Office with experience in Access; excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and office management skills; ability to work flexible hours including some Saturdays.


Provide administrative assistance for the Department of Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies.                                


  1. Various reports and other duties as assigned by the Chair, Department of Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies.
  2. Answer Phones/Voicemail.
  3. Develop and maintain department database on faculty information, teaching assignments, course offerings, contract information, textbook and instructor materials, etc.
  4. Mail pickup.
  5. Assign duties & supervise work study students.
  6. Attend assistants meetings with the School of Arts & Sciences Staff.
  7. Schedule meetings.
  8. Update full-time faculty online calendars.
  9. Assist 300+ students in general school procedures.
  10. Assist faculty in securing audio-visual equipment for classroom use.
  11. Work with other departments and entities within the university in order to achieve the department’s goals.
  12. Clerical support for Full-time & Adjunct Faculty.
  13. Update department course schedules (Hardcopy).
  14. Order office supplies.
  15. Record & distribute minutes of various meetings.
  16. Distribute rosters.
  17. Maintain syllabi templates.
  18. Distribute student evaluations.
  19. Adjunct/Overload contract review & revision as needed.
  20. Syllabi review (PDE Standardized).
  21. Book/desk copy orders.
  22. Compile and distribute Faculty Schedules (Hardcopy).
  23. Maintain bulletin boards/Adjunct Mailboxes/Form files.
  24. Maintain student folders/records.
  25. Update web pages.
  26. Update undergraduate catalogs.
  27. Other duties as required.
