Point Park University is an independent, coed institution located in downtown Pittsburgh with an enrollment of approximately 4000 full- and part-time students in more than 50 majors and concentrations. Founded in 1960 as Point Park College, it is known for providing its students with an education that combines the liberal arts with career education. About the School
The School of Arts and Sciences at Point Park University has a mission to develop students as life-long learners through a distinctive liberal arts and interdisciplinary foundation and to prepare them to be professionals through strong, relevant, career-focused programs. The School accomplishes this through dynamic and experienced faculty in four unique departments: Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies; Education; Humanities and Human Sciences; Natural Sciences and Engineering Technology. The School is the foundation of all the academic programs at Point Park University providing liberal arts and science courses to every school and major. Arts and Sciences faculty have designed the vast majority of the courses in the University's "core-curriculum" which creates a common educational experience for all Point Park students. The four departments offer majors that cover the full spectrum of higher education from true liberal arts majors to highly technical professional majors.
The Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences reports to the Provost and will join a team of academic administrators and faculty enthusiastically committed to the University and its mission. The successful candidate will bring a demonstrated vision of the foundational role of liberal arts and sciences in professional education and have a record of collaborative and effective leadership in higher education in increasingly responsible positions. The Dean of Arts & Sciences will be a member of the Dean's Council and collaborate with the other Schools and University programs.
The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate and successful teaching experience in a discipline within Arts and Sciences. Additionally, the successful candidate must have experience in developing, implementing and evaluating academic programs; in the evaluation and development of faculty; in budget and personnel management, in supporting efforts of Institutional Advancement and community engagement; and in the implementation of strategic planning. Representing the University in external fundraising activities is required.
