Point Park University Hosts the National Association of Women Artists Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Point Park University invites the public to From a Different Point of View, a juried exhibition composed by the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. (N.A.W.A.) The exhibition, which features 21 contemporary works of art from 15 artists, celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Women's History month and will be on display at Point Park until May 19, 2012. This is the first time Pittsburgh has hosted a National Association of Women Artists exhibit.

Over 200 entries were received from artists across the United States. Eric C. Shiner, director of The Andy Warhol Museum, acted as juror for the exhibition. Shiner has been with The Warhol since 2008. In addition to his role at The Warhol, he is a contributing editor for Art AsiaPacific magazine and an adjunct professor of art history at the University of Pittsburgh.

'"It is a pleasure to see the creative spirit of women artists across the country, and to show their artwork in Pittsburgh," said Shiner. "I am delighted to be involved in a partnership with Point Park University."

Founded in 1889, N.A.W.A. is the oldest professional women's fine art organization in the United States. Many renowned artists have been associated with the organization including Edith Mitchel Prellevity (a co-founder), Mary Cassat, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Alice Neel and Louise Nevelson. The major purpose of N.A.W.A. is to provide a forum for women artists to share ideas, to foster public awareness and exhibit their member's work in New York and throughout the United States.

Jack Tomayko, Point Park Board of Trustees member and avid art collector, was integral in the development of the Lawrence Hall Gallery. He has played a vital role in exhibits displayed in the gallery since its creation in 2009. The public displays of artwork in Lawrence Hall Gallery have supported Point Park's mission by enriching the experiences of students, faculty and staff and engaging the surrounding community.
