Graduate Education Department to Offer New Technology Courses This Summer for Teachers

Teachers' Technology "Boot Camp" Courses
The graduate education department at Point Park University is offering two new courses this summer for K-12 and higher education teachers who want to gain knowledge and skills in online teaching.
“Online and blended learning in education is rapidly growing. These ‘technology bootcamp courses’ are an exciting opportunity for teachers to enhance their knowledge and skills in a supportive, collaborative, and adult friendly learning environment,” said Vincenne Revilla Beltrán, Ph.D., professor of education.
The following two teachers' technology "boot camp" courses are open to current Point Park graduate education students as well as individuals with teacher certification.
Online and Virtual Teaching and Learning
Three graduate credits, offered May 16 - June 20 on Wed. evenings and online
Taught by Vincenne Revilla, Ph.D., professor of education, this course is for teachers who want to learn basic skills about the design and delivery of online and hybrid courses. Topics will include best practices and quality standards for blended and online learning, the historical roots of distance education, online, and blended education, models of online learning course design and delivery, social media for teaching and learning, and more.
Technological Applications Across the Curriculum
Three graduate credits, offered June 30 – Aug. 4 on Saturdays
This course, taught by Karen Hall, Ed.D., adjunct instructor and director of e-learning at Point Park, is for teachers who want to gain educational technology skills that can be applied to the courses they teach. Teachers will learn about webcasts, videoconferencing, student response systems (clickers), mobile and game-based learning, teaching and learning in virtual worlds, best practices in online and hybrid course design, and more.
