Why did you decide to major in SAEM?
With my son’s potential of being a draft pick in the 2013 NBA Draft class, I want to be his business/personal manager so I decided to go back to school to learn about sports management.
What factors made you choose Point Park?
Point Park was close to my home and to my job and had the SAEM program.
How is the SAEM program helping to prepare you for managing your son’s basketball career?
The most beneficial experience thus far would have to be my athlete management and marketing classes. These two courses in particular have taught me so much as it relates to dealing with athletes, their issues and concerns, and how to market them correctly. While through life experiences I’ve learned how to be an administrator, the SAEM program has not only strengthened what I already know but has given me insight into areas such as marketing, athlete management, and strategic planning. This will only enhance my life experiences and make me a more effective business manager.
What advice do you have for individuals considering entering college as a non-traditional student?
The best piece of advice I can give is to make sure you have very good time management skills and family support. It is challenging to be able to balance school work with family commitments and responsibilities and work schedules. When you have the love and support of your family and good time management skills, you have some valuable tools to help you be a successful student.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Making the decision to go back to school has not only been a challenge but a blessing. It has given me the knowledge on how to be a successful business woman and the wisdom on how to be an effective manager. I’m grateful for this opportunity to enhance my education. I have not only grown academically but this time in school has allowed me to be an example to my children, and for that I’m grateful.
