Graduate student covers hearing for New York Times

Leah Welch, a graduate assistant in the School of Communication, covered the federal court hearing of White House shooting suspect Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez for The New York Times.

The hearing was held Nov. 17 at the U.S. Federal District Courthouse in downtown Pittsburgh. Ortego-Hernandez allegedly used an assault rifle to shoot at the residential floors of the White House. He was arrested in Indiana, Pa.

Welch received a contributing line on the article, In Gunshots, a Trail of Threats is Reported.
