The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25. The 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention lifeline is available at 1-866-488-7386. It is free and always available. Text and chat are also available.

Trans Lifeline

A national 24/7 crisis intervention hotline for transgender people of all ages. It is only staffed by transgender people. Contact: 877-565-8860

Campus Resources

SafeZone

SafeZone provides training to faculty and staff to help them become better allies to the Point Park LGBTQ community. SafeZone volunteers provide spaces where LGBTQ individuals are assured a comfortable place to learn about resources and ask questions about the LGBTQ community, gender, and sexuality.

SafeZone volunteers are not counselors, but they are available to provide support and connections to additional help both on and off campus.

  • Central Outreach Wellness Center promotes wellness in the community by fostering their patient's whole self.  COWC's focus is on culturally competent care by striving to understand what their client's needs are and how COWC can treat them holistically.

  • Parents, Families and friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), Pittsburgh Chapter builds on a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQ people and allies who support one another. PFLAG educates us and our communities to speak up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value and affirm LGBTQ people.

National Organizations

  • Garden of Peace Project was created to uplift, uphold, and empower the narratives and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals and to address the lack of education, employment, healthcare, and housing, and the violence that impacts all LGBTQIA+ individuals. 
  • Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) documents and responds to media coverage and treatment of LGBTQ people and issues of importance to them.
  • Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is a bipartisan organization that works to advance equality based on sexual orientation and gender expression and identity, to ensure that LGBTQ Americans can be open, honest, and safe at home, at work and in the community.
  • Lambda Legal (Defense and Education Fund) is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of LGBTQ people and people with HIV or AIDS through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.
  • National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a civil rights organization dedicated to empowering Black LGBT people. NBJC's mission is to end racism and homophobia.
  • National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) is the nation's leading social justice advocacy organization for transgender people. The NCTE works at the local, state, and federal level to change laws, policies and society.
  • National LGBTQ Task Force (The Task Force) works to eliminate prejudice, violence and injustice against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender & queer people at the local, state and national level. As part of a broader social justice movement for freedom, justice and equality, The Task Force is creating a world that respects and celebrates the diversity of human expression and identity where all people may fully participate in society.
  • Project Know aims to inform parents and family members of those struggling with addiction, as well as addicts and alcoholics themselves, about the options available for treating addiction.
