New Student Contract and Roommate Questionnaire

What you need to know before you get started

New, incoming students who have submitted their $350 tuition deposit (click here to pay your tuition deposit) and want to live in a residence hall must complete and submit a housing and food service contract and roommate questionnaire.  Click here to review the Housing and Food Service Terms and Conditions.

Is this room deposit separate/different from the tuition deposit?

Yes. The room deposit is separate and additional from the tuition deposit.

  • A $400 residence hall room deposit is required.  Click here to pay your housing deposit online.
    • $250 is applied as your room deposit.
    • $150 is applied as a damage deposit and is refundable upon termination of the contract provided the room has not sustained any damage.
    • The residence hall room deposit is non-refundable after May 1.

Is housing guaranteed?

Housing is guaranteed for incoming freshman until July 15.

Can I select the residence hall that I wish to live?

No.  New, incoming freshman are automatically placed in Lawrence or Thayer Hall.  Click here to learn more about Lawrence and Thayer Halls.

Can I request a single room?

Single rooms are reserved for upperclassmen or students with a medical condition.  If you have a medical condition that requires you to be placed in a single room, you will be required to provide proof of your condition.


About the Residence Halls

  • 2010-2011 costs per semester:

    • Single Room - $3,350 per semester
    • Double Room - $2,260 per semester
    • Triple Room - $2,060 per semester
  • Lawrence Hall is NOT air conditioned.  Thayer Hall IS air conditioned.  If you require an air conditioner for medical reasons, you will be placed in Thayer Hall which is air conditioned.  Again, you must provide proof of your condition.

  • If requesting a single room, proof of a medical condition must be submitted under separate cover .  If the proper paperwork is not submitted, your contract will not be processed.  No late paperwork will be accepted.  Medical condition documentation must be submitted to:

About Resident Dining Plans

  • New, incoming resident students are required to select purchase a meal plan.

  • 2010-2011 costs per semester for 14 meal and 10 meal per week plans:

    • 14 meal per week plan with $200 Flex dollars:  $2,480 per semester
    • 10 meal per week plan with $275 Flex dollars:  $2,310 per semester
    • Flex dollar amounts are subject to change

How the Meal Plans Work

  • Enjoy all-you-care-to-eat dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the Lawrence Hall Residential Dining Facility
  • Receive a set number of meals per week. Each time you eat in the Lawrence Hall Residential Dining Facility, one meal is subtracted from your weekly meal allowance.
  • Use a meal exchange in The Point Cafe during breakfast, dinner or late night (cannot be used for lunch
  • Flex dollars work like a bank debit card; each time you make a purchase, the total is subtracted from the balance in your account
  • Purchase $300 or more additional FLEX and receive a 5 percent bonus
  • Flex Dollars supplement weekly meal allowance, and can be used in all of our food service locations:
    • Lawrence Hall Residential Dining Facility 
    • Starbucks 
    • Starbucks Kiosk
    • Premieres at the Pittsburgh Playhouse
    • The Point Cafe'
