Chosen for its "distinguished history and a limitless future," Pittsburgh hosted the 2009 G-20 Economic Summit, which brought together leaders from major world economies to discuss economic issues. Even with Pittsburgh's growing international presence and global appeal, the city remains one of the most livable places in the United States, with friendly, helpful locals, a small town atmosphere, and many cultural activities and amenities.

Currently, Point Park University's International students come from 30 countries spanning the globe. Many international students choose Point Park for its small classes (student-to-faculty ratio 13:1), which allow close friendships and which encourage intellectual growth with life-changing impact.

Beyond the Downtown campus, Point Park's students are part of Pittsburgh's larger global community, with many opportunities to connect with international faculty and international students from the area's 29 colleges and universities.

Point Park University also hosts the region's only ELS Language Center on our urban campus for students who need additional help in language skills or to help support their opportunites in the US for further education. For more information, please visit ELS directly.

International Student Services Programs

International students make great sacrifices—including leaving behind friends, families, favorite foods, and lifestyles. To help them adjust and maximize their time at Point Park, the University's Office of International Student Services sponsors events and activities — on and off campus — to help international students feel comfortable in their new community. We also promote cultural exchange opportunities to help build appreciation for and understanding of different cultures. Some of our programs include:

  • New international student orientation
  • International Club advisement
  • Trips and cultural events
  • International Week celebrations

Point Park's Cultural Summit

Point Park’s Cultural Summit was the first large-scale event sponsored by the ISSE office this academic year and one of the first large events for the entire University community. The Cultural Summit was hosted on September 21, 2009, in anticipation of the G20 Economic Summit coming to Pittsburgh during September 24 and 25, 2009. The objective of this gathering was to celebrate cultures with great entertainment, traditional arts and delectable international dishes.

The International Club

The International Club is a student-run organization that fosters cultural understanding between American and International students through fun, educational events. Some of the most popular programs include:

  • Monthly Cultural Snapshots: Members of the University community are invited to learn about a specific country directly from a native student,
  • Annual International Week: This week-long event celebrates cultures from around the world and culminates with an evening of international foods and great performances.
  • Outings: Club trips have included a ski outing to Seven Springs Mountain Resort and a visit to Niagara Falls.
