Breakout in the Bayou (alternative spring break trip):
Point Park University students went on their first University sponsored alternative spring break last year to Biloxi, MI. The Biloxi or Bust team partnered with Habitat for Humanity and helped build a home for a family still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Read participants stories from last year. This year we are partnering with Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge and traveling to Mandeville, LA to continue helping those families still affected by Katrina.
The Breakout in the Bayou trip will take place March 1st to March 6th to Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West in Mandeville, LA. Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West has served the west St. Tammany parish community since 1981, creating 175 affordable new homes with low-income families. Homes are created with volunteer labor and community funding, then sold to HFHSTW HomeBuyers with zero-interest mortgage loans. Each HomeBuyer participates in financial education programs and contributes some 400 hours of "sweat-equity".
Follow this year's adventures on the group's blog.
