PRIMARY FUNCTION:   The Media Production Support Specialist provides front line technical support to the students, staff, and faculty of the Cinema Arts Department. An individual in this position is expected to analyze and diagnose any problems related to specific hardware and software services provided by the Information Technology Services department (ITS). The Media Production Support Specialist will perform this function through phone calls, e-mail correspondence, walk-in requests, remote support, office visits, and work-order tickets. The Media Production Support Specialist is the first point of contact for students, staff, and faculty, and as such should attempt to independently resolve all issues. The Media Production Support Specialist is also required to monitor the progress of and follow-up on every ticket they enter into the work-order system to ensure successful resolution. The Media Production Support Specialist should also report any problems with systems and services relating to ITS and Cinema Arts.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a Cinema Arts, Communications, or Multimedia related field.
  • 2- 3 years experience with supporting the technical needs of end users, and the support of video postproduction and computer-related facilities.
  • 2- 3 years experience supporting digital workflow in either a commercial, education, or feature film postproduction facility preferred.
  • Apple, CompTIA A+ certifications are preferred.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Proficiency with current protocols in digital video production, storage, applications and operating systems for both Apple and PC computers. Knowledge of film, video and animation postproduction workflow.
  • Demonstrated level of proficiency in troubleshooting Apple and PC hardware and operating systems, along with advanced knowledge of digital applications for audio and video postproduction, VFX, and computer animation.
  • Able to read and understand hardware requirements for running media production software on a computer, as well as the ability to recommend computer purchases based on these requirements.
  • High attention to detail with a demonstrated, proactive ability to organize and respond to varying requests and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbally and writing, as well as the ability to express thoughts and ideas effectively to others through a variety of media to individuals or groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey information to non-technical colleagues in a concise and understandable way.
  • Ability to maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, and adherence to office protocols and University policies and procedures.
  • Motivated self-starter with a “show must go on” mentality.
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to manage complexity associated with a fast-paced work environment and multiple priorities/tasks. The employee will be required to make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations, grasp and apply new ideas, communicate with various personalities at all levels and have the ability to lead and innovate.
  • Incumbent may be required to work afternoon, evening, and Saturday hours, with rotating days off throughout the academic year. Hours through the summer months may also vary.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.

DUTIES:

  1. Provide operational maintenance and first level support of media production and animation software and hardware for the Cinema Arts Program.
  2. Assist in the distribution, installation, configuration of software and application-specific hardware for Cinema Arts classrooms, faculty and staff.
  3. Act as primary point of contact for support issues with media production software, animation software, and application-specific hardware vendors used within the Cinema Arts department.
  4. Troubleshoot digital editing and finishing workflow issues.
  5. Research and make recommendations on purchases of computers, software, application-specific hardware, and supporting technology
  6. Perform routine monitoring, maintenance and upgrade of Cinema Arts media production systems on a schedule appropriate to facility-wide compatibility standards.
  7. Maintain documentation of historical and current status of media production systems and software releases in use.
  8. Collaborate with ITS, Media Services, and staff to assist with special projects to support infrastructure.
  9. Research new technologies and advise the IT and Cinema Arts departments to keep our facilities up to date and operating within industry standards.
