Point Park University's Building Our Leaders Daily program is celebrating its second-year achievements with a special event on Wednesday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Hall ballroom. The event will honor student participants, mentors and community partners who have contributed to the success of the program.

Paulo Nzambi, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Manchester Bidwell Corporation, will be the keynote speaker. Nzambi manages day-to-day operations at Manchester Bidwell, a nonprofit conglomerate that provides arts education and adult career training, and operates social enterprises.

The master of ceremonies will be KDKA-TV reporter Harold Hayes.

The BOLD program is aimed at creating awareness of careers in finance and accounting among urban middle school students throughout the region that may not otherwise be exposed to such career paths, as well as provide students the resource of potentially lifelong mentorships.

BOLD is part of the Urban Accounting Initiative, launched in August of 2011, from a $1 million gift to Point Park’s School of Business, from the late Point Park benefactors George and Kathleen White. In addition to the UAI, the White gift established the George Roland White Endowed Professor of Accounting and Finance, a position held by Edward Scott, C.P.A., M.B.A.

According to Herman Reid, Ed.D., Point Park’s director of academic and economic development and the BOLD program, “The mentoring and guidance is a unique motivational and inspirational feature of the program."

Professionals with similar upbringings and urban backgrounds help students discover the many career pathways in the fields of accounting and finance, as well as offer guidance on interviewing, work habits, time management, money management and other life skills.
