Second 'Day of Dreams' Celebrating MLK Day, Jan. 17; Classes in Session

The Honors Student Organization, Black Student Union, United Student Government and Ad Fed/PRSSA have collaborated with the Office of Academic and Student Affairs to host the second annual "Day of Dreams" to celebrate and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Events begin Monday, Jan. 17.

The University is maintaining a normal class schedule on Jan. 17.

Student Showcase:

  • A student talent and performance showcase will be held Monday, Jan. 17 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Hall Ballroom. Poetry, music, dance and dramatic pieces will highlight diversity and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There will be a $2 admission fee. All proceeds will be donated to the Pittsburgh Promise to aid Promise students who plan to or who currently attend Point Park.

Book Drive:

  • Students, faculty and staff can donate their gently used books to the book drive starting Monday, Jan. 17 through Thursday, Jan. 20. The books will be donated to the Allegheny County Jail for inmates and their families. Book drop off will be available in the Lawrence Hall Lobby from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 4 until 6 p.m. each day.

T-Shirt Sale:

  • T-shirts honoring Dr. King will be available for sale in Lawrence Hall Lobby Monday, Jan. 17 through Thursday, Jan. 20 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 4 until 6 p.m. each day. All proceeds will be donated to the Pittsburgh Promise to aid Promise students who plan to or who currently attend Point Park.

"My Dream" Quilt:

  • Point Park students, faculty and staff are invited to create patches for a quilt to be donated to Martin Luther King Elementary School on the North Side. Each quilt square will be based on the theme “My Dream for you is  …” Participants will list their dreams for the elementary students and decorate their squares. Once the quilt is assembled, a group of Point Park students will visit Martin Luther King Elementary School to present the quilt to their students.
