Jim Hightower Feature ImageJim Hightower, national radio commentator and author, is slated to hold a lecture, entitled "Meaning of Populism (True and False)", at Point Park University on Wednesday, October 20. The event will be held in the George Rowland White Theatre in the University Center (414 Wood Street, Downtown) at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. There will be a book signing and reception immediately following.

Twice elected Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Hightower believes that the true political spectrum is not right to left but top to bottom. He broadcasts daily radio commentaries that are carried in more than 150 commercial and public stations, on the web, on Armed Forces Radio, and on Radio for Peace International. He also does a weekly video blog.

Each month, Hightower publishes a populist political newsletter, "The Hightower Lowdown", which now has more than 135,000 subscribers and is one of the fastest growing political publications in America. The hard-hitting "Lowdown" has received both the Alternative Press Award and the Independent Press Association Award for best national newsletter.

This event is presented by Point Park University's School of Arts and Sciences and the Global Cultural Studies program, which is offered through the Department of Humanities and Human Sciences. The aim of the Global Cultural Studies program is to provide students with an understanding of the complexities of the world in which we live, grounded in a familiarity with its historical, philosophical, political, social, cultural, aesthetic, and environmental elements; and the critical thinking and communication skills needed to make agile, confident and informed decisions.

Registration is available through Point Park University's website www.pointpark.edu/ces. Questions regarding the event can be directed to 412-392-3938 or email lmonahan@pointpark.edu.
