All students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in events and activities honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16. The Honors Program's new Emerging Leaders cohort has planned activities.

Point Park University will be open and classes will be held as scheduled.

This year Honors Program members will collect school and art supplies for a Pittsburgh Public Schools elementary school, Pittsburgh King Pre K-8, with which Point Park has an ongoing partnership. The school is located in the heart of the city's central North Side, and it is an Accelerated Learning Academy. The Honors students will set up tables in the Lawrence Hall lobby from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday to collect donations.

Later on Monday, Ed Meena, professor of history, will speak on "The Road to I Have a Dream" at 4:30 p.m. in Lawrence Hall lobby. This event will be held in conjunction with a poverty dinner of grilled cheese, tomato soup and drinks that will be offered for a free will donation that will also benefit Pittsburgh King Pre K-8.
