Background
Emily Thomas is a writer, producer, educator and advocate who has spearheaded nationally recognized scripted and documentary content that encourages and advances meaningful public discourse around consequential issues. Her work is most notably known for the Netflix original series "Longmire," which “paved the way for Native representation in entertainment” (United Press International), and Kartemquin Documentary Films, which was “founded to make democratic documentaries [and] be an actor in a democracy” (Current).
Thomas is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago's School of Film and Television. She has worked with WME Entertainment, Warner Horizon Television and Jerry Bruckheimer Productions.
Thomas' personal work explores an expansive definition of interpersonal and systemic violence and seeks to reframe our shared societal conception of the exploitative use of power and control. She is particularly passionate about stories that speak to the complexities of loss and survival in all their many forms.
Thomas lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, Michael, and their German Shepherd, Sawyer.
