Wilson Reading System® Level I Certification

Develop Expertise in Structured Literacy Instruction in Our Fully Online Program

This certificate provides educators and related professionals with comprehensive preparation in the Wilson Reading System® (WRS) at Level I. It is designed for individuals who wish to develop expertise in structured literacy instruction, particularly for students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences.

The four graduate-level courses, totaling 12 credits, emphasize the principles of structured literacy. At successful completion of all required components, candidates will earn a WRS Level I Certification.

Admission is limited to candidates who hold a teaching certification. 

Courses and Topics

The certificate consists of the following four courses:

  • EDUC 556: Science of Reading Overview Course
  • EDUC 557: WRS Introductory Course
  • EDU 558: WRS Intensive Instruction for the Non-Responsive Reader (Steps 1-6)
  • EDUC 559: WRS Steps 1-6 Practicum
