Foods and Languages of the World

1.5 Understand that communication occurs in different ways including various languages, devices, and gestures. 

Objective: The students will be able to create different forms of origami and sound some of the Japanese language.

Materials: Origami Paper

Kimonos

Japanese Dolls

Adaptations to Differentiate Instruction: The class will be given origami that has already been assembled to play with if they do not want to make their own.

Procedure: "Japanese Origami"

  1. The class will be introduced to Japanese culture by showing the students Japanese Art, and Dolls that children their age play with.

  2. The class will then be shown the Art of Origami and will be shown how to create their own.

  3. The class will show their peers what they have created and will then name their Origami pieces.

  4. The class will then come together to learn some of the Japanese language.
