Background

Dora Cristina Ion, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of political science in the School of Arts and Sciences at Point Park University and coordinator of the history, political science and legal studies programs. Prior to joining Point Park full time, Ion was an instructor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Point Park and an instructor in the political science department at the University of Pittsburgh. Before that, she was a research assistant and teaching assistant at Wayne State University. Prior to starting her graduate studies at Wayne State University, Ion worked as a legal adviser for the Romanian government, in which she participated in the drafting of bilateral agreements and treaties.

During her graduate years at Wayne State University, she was involved in research on lead poisoning in children and its effects on academic achievement, and the spectrum of populism in Romania. Ion graduated with a dissertation that reinterpreted Immanuel Kant's peace writings and offered a comprehensive critique of international relations theories previously based on Kant. Her work eventually materialized in the book Kant and international relations theory: cosmopolitan community- building, published by Routledge in 2012. Ion's research interests continue being centered on political theory (justice theories) and international relations, especially cosmopolitanism (Kantian) and integration.
