Point Park Men's Golf comes in 8th place at NCAA DII event at Mercyhurst Invitational

ERIE, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team placed eighth of eight teams at the Mercyhurst Invitational held Oct. 13-14 at Downing Country Club. The event was made up of seven NCAA Division II schools and Point Park.
Point Park turned in team scores of 309 and 305 in the two-day event for a 36-hole total of 614. Four of the eight teams shot under 600 and four shot over 600. Fourth-place IUP, a very strong team, shot 599. Millersville shot 589 for a three-shot win over California and four shots over West Chester.
Steve Veydt, from Cecil, Pa., led Point Park with an 11th-place finish. He shot 5-over 149 for the tournament after rounds of 73-76. Chris Bowen finished tied for 26th with two rounds of 76 for a total of 8-over 152.
Collin Holmes shot a 74 in the final round to finish tied for 33rd at 154 (+10). Billy Wivell (82-79--161) and Shane Killeen (80-82-162) also competed for Point Park.
The Mercyhurst Invitational concluded the fall schedule for Point Park. The fall slate was highlighted by a victory at Allegheny and a second-place finish at Washington & Jefferson. A full spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
