Point Park loses at Carlow, 1-0, in key KIAC Women's Soccer showdown

CHESWICK, Pa. -- Point Park University lost at Carlow University, 1-0, in a key, Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer showdown at Founders Field on Wednesday night.

Carlow (11-1-1, 6-0-0 KIAC) got a goal in the 89th minute to beat Point Park (8-7-1, 4-1-1 KIAC) and clinch a first-place finish in the KIAC regular season standings and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming KIAC Tournament.

Point Park entered the contest a half game behind the Celtics in the standings and will finish in second place and with the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. All teams in the conference have now completed all six of their KIAC games.

The last three meetings between Point Park and Carlow have ended 1-0 with the home team winning each time. Point Park has lost four of its last five games to the Celtics and is 1-4-1 versus its crosstown opponent since 2008.

The KIAC Tournament will be a six-team, single-elimination event with the official seeding and bracket TBA by the league office. Carlow and Point Park will receive first-round byes as the top two seeds.

Unofficially, the first round matchups would feature No. 6 Berea (1-5 KIAC) at  No. 3 Cincinnati Christian (3-2-1 KIAC) and No. 5 Midway (2-4 KIAC) at No. 4 Asbury (3-3 KIAC) on Nov. 3.

Also unofficially, No. 2 Point Park would host the winner of the No. 6 Berea vs. No. 3 Cincinnati Christian in a semifinal Nov. 6. Carlow would host on Nov. 6 the winner of the other first-round game. The highest-remaining team will host the KIAC Finals Nov. 10.

Any and all KIAC Tournament games hosted by Point Park will be a Cupples Stadium, located at 9th & Caron streets in Pittsburgh's South Side.

Point Park has one more regular season game left, Saturday at Fisher (Mass.) College.
