Assistant Professor - Sociology
The Humanities and Social Sciences department at Point Park University seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment for a social theorist at the rank of Assistant Professor; appointment to begin August 2018.
The appointment is for a full-time faculty member in a small department where the teaching load is four courses per semester. The successful candidate will teach two introductory courses in Sociology per semester, as well as advanced courses in methods and his/her area(s) of geographic and theoretical expertise.
Preference will be given to candidates who can teach (based on research in a non-Western/Global South context, i.e. Pacific Rim or Africa) on global issues (e.g. inequality, war, poverty, labor, environmental degradation, etc.) in one or more of the following theoretical areas: post-colonial theory, dependency theory, power-elite model, political ecology, political economy, etc.
Our ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Sociology and teaching experience, as well as a commitment to teaching, scholarly/professional engagement, and service; familiarity with online teaching and willingness to work in multiple teaching formats a plus.
