Point Park University invites nominations and applications for its first General Counsel of the University. PPU seeks an exceptional attorney and leader to be a member of the Presidents Executive Team and the University’s chief legal advisor.
Point Park is a comprehensive, master's-level university with a strong liberal arts tradition located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. Enrolling nearly 4,000 full- and part-time students in 87 undergraduate programs and 13 graduate programs, the University has schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Communication, and a Conservatory of Performing Arts. The University’s comprehensive strategic plan focuses on enhancing academic excellence, a quality student experience, managed growth and community engagement. In 2008, Point Park announced the creation of the Academic Village at Point Park University, a thriving living and learning hub. Point Park's $280-million campus and public enhancement space plan is designed to transform the University and downtown Pittsburgh.
The General Counsel for Point Park University is responsible for proactively managing all legal matters arising from the activities of the University. Reporting to the President, the General Counsel advises the President and the Board of Trustees, and works collaboratively with the University’s leadership. The University seeks both a legal advisor and a strategist who can incorporate best practices into policies that reflect the compliance and legal responsibilities of PPU.
The successful candidate will be an experienced problem solver with excellent communication and analytical skills, and a leader known for good judgment, diplomacy, discretion, composure, and tact. The University seeks candidates with a minimum of 7 years of experience in roles with increasing responsibility in complex environments. Preference will be given for experience in higher education, foundations, cultural organizations, or related settings, including experience with non-profit corporation management. Candidates must have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to or ability to gain admission to the Pennsylvania Bar within one year of hire.
