Point Park to Host Variety of Summer Programs for High School Students

    From animation to accounting, Point Park University will be offering a wide array of camps and workshops for high school students this summer. Check out the information below for specific information on each program.

      Animation Workshop

      2D Animation Workshop, July 29-Aug. 2 — Explore the art of illustration, animation and the creation of worlds for the characters you imagine. Using Adobe Creative Suite, you will develop characters and learn the concepts and techniques of animation.

    • Accounting Career Awareness Program, July 7-12 — This one-week summer program introduces students to the accounting, business, economics and finance professions through an educational and interactive curriculum involving accounting, business, economics and finance professionals, University faculty and business, government and community mentors.
    • Acting Camp, July 22-Aug. 9 — Students will learn and refine acting, voice and movement skills through contemporary and classical works. This workshop will help prepare students with auditions and stage movement, as well as allow them to explore the world of performance beyond text.
    • Camp Hollywood, July 15-26 — Learn to write, direct and edit your own short film. You’ll also work on the crew of several of your classmates’ movies, learn how to operate the Panasonic HVX-200 HD digital video camera and use Final Cut Pro editing software.

      CSI Summer Camp
    • CSI Summer Camp, July 16-18 — Investigate a mock crime scene from start to finish. This three-day camp features a mixture of lectures, labs and investigative work performed right on campus in Point Park’s crime scene investigation house.
    • International Summer Dance, June 24-Aug. 3 (3 or 6 weeks) — Dance with nationally and internationally-recognized teaching artists while participating in this comprehensive program. The curriculum includes daily technique classes in ballet, jazz and modern, supplemented by pointe and variations, male technique, pas de deux, tap, music for dancers, Pilates and yoga.

    • Screenwriting Camp, July 8-12 — Learn the elements of storytelling and find your voice as a writer. At the end of the course, you will have a completed short script, the tools to uncover the mysteries of storytelling and a collection of exercises to jump-start your creativity.

      SAEM Summer Workshop
    • Sport, Arts and Entertainment Management Workshop, July 17-18 — This workshop consists of three days packed with info on what it’s like to work in event management, talent representation, venue design, marketing and more. Tours of Stage AE, the Benedum Center, the Byham Theater and the Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret theatre are included.

    • Summer Dance Workshop, July 22-Aug. 2 — During this two-week program, students will participate in technique classes in ballet, jazz , modern, tap and pointe or strengthening (students who do not wish to take tap class can take pointe class five times a week). Classes are held Monday through Friday.

      Summer Media Workshop
    • Summer Media Workshop, June 16-22 — Get a taste what it's like to study in one of our innovative communications majors at one of our interactive, multimedia workshops — learn about writing, video, audio, photography and social media.

    • Summer Movement Intensive, July 8-24 — This program is ideal for actors, dancers, directors, choreographers and anyone interested in movement and performance. The program will include works in Suziki Method (physical and vocal training), Slow-Tempo (silent-narrative in a slow, fictional time) and Ki Training (harnessing of natural, potential energy).

    • Theater Technical Workshop, July 22-Aug. 3 — Learn about stage craft, stage management, costume, scenic and lighting design at this hands-on workshop. Each student will participate and learn to hang lights, tech a dance show, organize wardrobes and operate the sound and light board during this two-week workshop.

    • Traditional Animation Workshop, July 22-26 and July 29-Aug. 2 — Explore the storyboarding process while developing cartooning skills. The second half of this workshop will focus on stop motion animation. Students will design their own clay characters then bring them to life as part of a production team. At the end of the week students will have created a series of short films and experiments for portfolio inclusion.
