9 am - 4 pm Daily

This summer, devote three days to engaging with the local Pittsburgh community by partnering with nonprofit organizations! Students will participate in volunteer projects both on- and off-campus each morning and spend each afternoon developing their own ideas to help the community. Students will also create a poster and a video to promote their concepts for making the world a better place.




This program is open only to commuter students. 

This exciting program is open to middle and high school students aged 12-16.  No prior experience is necessary to participate. This program is open to the first 12 students who complete the registration and pay the deposit.

This camp will be led by Heather Starr-Fiedler (right) and Kelly Wilding (left).

Heather Starr-Fiedler serves as the Chair of Community Engagement for Point Park University and is a professor in Community Engagement and Communications.  Kelly Wilding is pursuing her Ph.D. in Community Engagement and serves as a graduate assistant in the Community Engagement department. Both Heather and Kelly are passionate about nonprofit work. Together they run the Wood Street Communications nonprofit outreach initiative at Point Park. 

Additionally, Heather founded Play it Forward Pittsburgh, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that collects and distributes toys to children each holiday season. Kelly spent 13 years in Development at the American Heart Association prior to returning to her graduate studies.

Both are passionate runners. Heather just finished the Honolulu Marathon and Kelly recently hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Payment Information:

All payments are due before the start of the program.

Registration and payments will be handled through our easy, user-friendly online registration platform, CampDocVisa, Mastercard, Discover and Electronic Checks are accepted. Payment plans are available. Students receive a t-shirt, swag bag, and ID holder with their registration. 

Non-Refundable Registration Fee: 
A non-refundable registration fee of $100.00 is required to reserve your space in the program. Please review our FAQs for the most up-to-date information on cancellations and refunds. This fee is separate from the tuition cost.

Dorm & Meals Information:

When applicable, residential students receive 3 meals on weekdays and 2 meals on weekends. Commuters receive a daily lunch buffet included with the program. All meals take place in our Lawrence Hall Dining Room.

Available Discounts:
1. A 30% tuition discount is currently offered to Point Park University employees, alumni, and their immediate family members. Family is defined as yourself, your spouse, and/or your children. Dorm and meal plan costs are not available for this discount.

2. Enroll a participant in more than one program or register more than one child from the same family to receive $50.00 off your balance.  This coupon can only be applied to one program or account. 

Welcome to our campus!

This program will be held on campus at Point Park University and off-campus at various volunteering locations. While on-campus, students will spend time in our Community Engagement Lab and our Center for Media Innovation.

Drop Off & Pick Up Details:
Students should be dropped off and picked up each day at our Academic Hall entrance. This is located at 201 Wood Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Additional details will be sent to registered participants. To view a campus map of our University,

Students will travel to our volunteering sites by University-leased vehicles with a certified driver.
