Explore the exciting world of forensic science, criminal justice, and intelligence at Point Park University’s CSI Summer Camp! Returning after a five-year hiatus, this week-long experience gives high school students a hands-on introduction to crime scene investigation, evidence analysis, and the real-world applications of these fields.

To participate in this exciting program, students must be entering grades 9-12 as of Fall 2025 and/or be a 2025 high school graduate.  No prior experience is necessary in order to participate. 

This program is open to the first 15 students who complete the registration and pay their deposit. 

Important Dates:

Residential and Commuter Check-In: Sunday, July 27 from 1 - 4 pm

4 pm: Student Orientation
6 pm: Dinner
7 pm: Meet n' Greet
 

Program Start Date: Monday, July 28 
Program End Date: Friday, August 1

Residential Move-Out: Friday, August 1 (evening) or Saturday, August 2 (morning)

 

Class Outlook

Led by experienced faculty, students will engage in hands-on activities and gain practical knowledge in various aspects of criminal justice and forensic science.

Key learning experiences include:

  • Crime Scene Processing: Learn to effectively process a crime scene house, understanding the procedures for evidence collection and preservation.
  • Forensic Evidence Analysis: Gain foundational knowledge in analyzing fingerprint and hair evidence directly from lab technicians.
  • Penology: Explore the importance of penology, the study of the punishment of crime and prison management.
  • Ethics in Criminal Justice: Discuss and analyze ethical considerations within the criminal justice system.
  • Ninja Lab: Review the history, tactics, and equipment of the real Shinobi / Ninjas
  • Firearm Safety: Learn essential principles of firearm safety.
  • Evidence Collection and Analysis: Participate in interactive labs to gain basic knowledge on the importance of collecting, analyzing, and preserving evidence.

Beyond the labs, the camp features:

  • Career Discussions: Explore diverse career paths in forensic science, law enforcement, and national security.
  • Real-World Scenarios: Develop critical thinking skills by working through realistic crime-solving scenarios.

The experience culminates in a certificate presentation, acknowledging student participation and newly acquired investigative skills.

 

Program Schedule:

Classes will be held Monday - Friday with a 1-hour lunch break on campus with the exception on Friday August 1st, lunch will be served at Steel Town Event Center.
This camp will cover two tours, one at Allegheny County Jail and the other at the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office, hands on crime scene investigations and evidence collection, a mock trial, a ninja lab and paintballing. The schedule below is subject to change at the discretion of the camp directors.

Crime Scene House- "Ninja Lab" - review the history, tactics, and equipment of the real Shinobi / Ninjas, including their origins, missions, methods, and innovations. We will also discuss a range of other historical groups around the world who utilized stealth, deception, manipulation, and other covert and clandestine methods to achieve their goals.

12:00 - 1:00 pm Lunch at the Residential Dining Facility
1:00- 3:45 pm Crime Scene House- We will conduct a range of safe, hands-on demonstrations and experiments to test several clever tactics used by Ninja, and even modern operatives, to outsmart adversaries and accomplish objectives.

11:30 - 12:00 pm Travel to Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner
12:00 - 3:20 pm Tour - Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner – the event you will be attending will provide a comprehensive overview of all operational areas of the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner to include both Morgue Operations and Laboratory Operations.  The event will consist of a lecture style format and will conclude with a tour of the entire facility.

Tour- Allegheny County Jail - Areas of Tour:Contact Visits, Intake Department, Re-Entry Complex, Educational Area, Chaplaincy Department, and a Vacant Housing Unit.

Visitors/students will also have a chance to meet Correctional Staff and view Jail Contraband.

10:30 - 3:00 pm Steel Town Event Park - Students will learn the basics of firearms safety They will learn how to properly aim, sight picture, etc. They will learn the principles of point shooting and aim point shooting at silhouettes Lastly; we will teach them about entering a room and shooting a threat which will be a standard silhouette paper target.

Christine L. Secilia, Ed.D.

Lecturer & Coordinator, Undergraduate Criminal Justice Department

Dr. Christine L. Secilia is a dedicated academic and experienced law enforcement professional, currently serving as a lecturer and coordinator for the undergraduate criminal justice department at Point Park University. With over a decade of hands-on law enforcement experience, she has worked in various capacities, including as a patrol officer, sergeant and chief. Her expertise spans criminal investigations, leadership and administration, making her an asset in both practical and academic settings.

Dr. Secilia’s educational background includes a bachelor's and master’s degree in administration of criminal justice from Point Park, culminating in a Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Administration. Her extensive academic experience, paired with her real-world law enforcement knowledge, equips her to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the criminal justice system.

A natural team player, Dr. Secilia thrives in collaborative environments, enjoying the challenges of planning, organizing and guiding others toward success. Outside of her professional life, she cherishes spending time with her two grandsons, who keep her on her toes and have become her favorite hobby.

Dorm & Meals Information:

When applicable, residential students receive 3 meals on weekdays and 2 meals on weekends. Commuters receive a daily lunch buffet. All meals take place in our Lawrence Hall Dining Room.

The option to live on campus is available to students at least 14 years old on the start date of the program. We will do our best to fulfill roommate requests, but requests are NOT guaranteed. Students will have the opportunity to enter requests during the registration process. 

Each residence hall has multiple points of secure access to student living areas, such as keycards, access codes, and lock and key. Students attending our workshop will stay in Thayer Hall. Thayer Hall offers double and triple occupancy rooms. A packing list will be sent closer to the workshop. Please be aware that bed linens (twin / extra-long linens) will need to be supplied by the student. 

Adult Resident Assistants (RAs) live on campus to supervise students who are minors. Each RA is responsible for eight to ten minors.
