Background
David Clark is a graphic designer with a passion for illustration, interactivity and storytelling. Clark was born and raised in Pittsburgh and his love for art and design began when he first started reading comics in local newspapers as a child.
Outside the classroom, Clark is the co-founder and lead designer of the family-run board game company Big Ham Games, named after Bigham Street on Mt. Washington. He and his father work together to create and self-publish board games, such as the horse-racing game Breakneck Derby and the historic war game Forts & Forests: The War for North America. To engage in local communities, Big Ham Games holds board game events at establishments all across the Pittsburgh area. In addition to his board game pursuits, Clark also worked as an intern designer for the Pittsburgh Penguins and he currently accepts opportunities as a freelance illustrator and designer.
Clark obtained his M.F.A. in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University, where he researched the creative value of comic strips as audience-engaging, interactive narrative devices. While studying at Kent State, he also taught courses covering graphic design, illustration and typography.
