Film Production Workshop for High School Students
Gain Filmmaking Experience Using State-of-the-Art Equipment and Facilities
High school students will gain hands-on filmmaking experience at Point Park University's Film Production Workshop on Friday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
Hosted by the Department of Film and Animation, this hands-on workshop walks you step-by-step through the entire production and post-production process — using the same professional facilities and equipment as working filmmakers.
Film Production Workshop Highlights
Production and On-Set Experience
Get an immersive introduction to real-world filmmaking by:
- Working on a Real Set: Step onto the set of "Bones in the Ocean," a department thesis film, and take part in filming a scene on the pirate ship set on the Department of Film and Animation's soundstage.
- Learning Crew Roles: Explore key positions such as director of photography, gaffer/grip and sound mixer — and try them out yourself.
Post-Production and Industry Tools
Follow the footage into our post-production suites to see how films come together:
- Picture Editing: Watch a professional edit in Adobe Premiere.
- Color Grading: See how images are refined in DaVinci Resolve.
- Visual Effects: Learn how CGI integrates with live-action using Unreal Engine, Maya and Nuke.
- Sound Design and Mixing: Explore immersive sound design and mixing using Avid Pro Tools and see a demonstration inside our state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos mixing room, giving you a look into advanced cinematic audio.
