Para2Teacher Paths to Certification

Para2Teacher Paths to Certification at Point Park University provide paraprofessionals the opportunity to complete a two-year, fully online Master of Education degree program while remaining employed. The goal of offering these pathways is to increase the diversity and quality of the teacher workforce by developing a sustainable pipeline of paraprofessionals prepared to meet the needs of students.

All graduate education programs at Point Park are fully accredited for Instructional I certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  

If you need to complete a bachelor's degree:

• Our B.A. in Instructional Studies has been designed to allow online degree completion. With your University advisor's approval, students may complete 12 credits of graduate work that can be used toward the bachelor's degree completion as well as the beginning of an M.Ed. program leading to PA teacher certification.

If you earned a bachelor's degree:

The School of Education has several paths to PA Teacher Certification:

• Propel Residency Program: A unique teacher residency program developed in collaboration with Point Park to certify teachers through the ABCTE program.
• The ABCTE Program: The only alternative path to teacher certification in PA approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
• Master's in Education Degree with PA Teacher Certification: Programs include Special Education PreK-12, PreK-4 and Secondary Education (Biology, Citizenship, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies).
