1. Objectives:
(Condition)
Given the appropriate materials the students will be able to use the appropriate words to resolve a conflict or problem.

(Performance)
Activity 1: Role-play
The students will be able to identify a problem through role-play and will discuss with their peers on how to resolve it.

Activity 2: Puzzle
The students will be able to work together with their peers cooperatively and will converse together to complete the puzzle.

Activity 3: Creating a Positive Classroom Environment
The students will be able to create a positive classroom Environment by implementing their classroom rules and deciding
which visual aids are suitable for the classroom.

(Level of Performance)
The students are expected to recognize a problem, work together as a group, and resolve any problems by using the appropriate words.

Modifications: The students will be reminded that they must participate as a group so they can complete all the activities for this lesson. We also feel that students at this age level tend to lose focus at times, but a structured lesson will ensure their participation.

4. Procedure:
A.) The teacher will begin the lesson by reviewing the classroom
rules, the rules for good speakers, and the rules for good
listeners.

B.) The teacher will introduce the lesson (using words to work
things out) and will describe the three activities that the
students will be participating in. The teacher will also
emphasize that all the students have to participate in order
for the lessons to be completed.

C.) 1. Upon entering the classroom, the students will be instructed
to find a seat on the rug.

2. The teachers will review the classroom rules, the rules for
good speakers, and the rules for good listeners.

3. The teacher will read the book:
Bourgeois, Paulette and Clark, Brenda. Franklin Says Sorry.
Scholastic Inc. January 2000. New York.

4. There will be a quick discussion about the book and how it relates to our lesson.

5. The teacher will describe the first activity, which is role-play.

6. The students will receive stop signs and badges, and will be told that are the "polite police" and their job is to correct any problems they may see during role-play. During this activity the students will be watching the college students act out skits that relate to conflict resolution. For example: Colleen will play with a ball, and Andrew will steal it from her. She pushes him and takes the ball back.

7. The students will be involved because they will be instructed to hold up their stop signs as soon as they see a problem within the skit. They can say "Stop Please"

8. Then, the students must explain why they stopped the skit, and demonstrate ways the conflict can be resolved in a kind way.

9. There will be a total of six skits in the role-play activity. One of which, there will not be a problem.

10. Once role-play is finished, the teachers will collect stop signs and badges and tell them that we will be starting activity number two.

11. The teachers will instruct the students to move to the next area of the room where a puzzle station is set up.

12. Once at activity number two, the teachers will explain to the students that they will be competing a puzzle as a group. They will be instructed to use kind word and work cooperatively to finish the puzzle.

13. The students will begin building the puzzle, and after completing it the teacher will ask question regarding the numbers on the puzzle.

14. If the puzzle is finished quickly, the teachers will experiment and ask the students to try to complete the same puzzle without using any words. If this is the case the teachers will take it a step further and ask if the puzzle was easier to build silently, or while using words.

15. If the puzzle is completed in the given amount of time, the teachers discuss the importance of using words when working in a group to achieve a goal.

16. The students will receive a snack pack for working well together.

17. After activity two is complete, the students will be instructed to clean up the puzzle and move to the third station in the room.

18. The teachers will instruct the students to find a seat on the rug and listen to directions for activity three.

19. The teacher will tell the students that they are going to be creating a positive classroom environment.

20. The teacher will hold up different posters and ask the students what they think is going on just by looking at the picture.

21. The teacher will read the saying on the poster and ask the children if they would like something like that in their classroom.

22. If the students choose to not put the poster in the classroom the students will be asked why.

23. The student will also explain their reasons for the reasons they chose to hang certain posters in the classroom.

24. Teacher will review the activities and ask the student what they learned in today's lesson.

25. The final step of the lesson will be passing out the snack packs and materials from activities

26. The students will get together for a final class photo.

5. Evaluation:
A.) The students will be evaluated on their participation in the
activities as well as how well they behave. The students will
also be commended on their usage of positive words.

B.) The lesson will be pulled together at the end of the class
when the teacher reviews the activities that the class has just
participated in and explains the importance of using the
appropriate words to resolve a conflict or problem.
