Requirements:

The Director of Student Life works collaboratively with the Office of Student Life staff, the Office of Student Affairs, and the University community to create a positive learning environment for all students. The position requires a minimum of a Master’s degree. The director should have 3 to 5 years of work experience in higher education, residence life and/or the equivalent experience.

Campus Responsibilities and Support:

  • Supports and attends University events and programs.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of all Student Life and Student Affairs large-scale initiatives.
  • Provides an enriched educational experience with sensitivity to diverse student needs as reflected in the University’s mission.
  • Manages resources in accordance to delegated programming budget as established by the Dean of Student Life and Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Serves on departmental and University committees as assigned.
  • Assists in crisis/emergency situation both in and out of the residence halls.
  • Serves in the role of an investigator and/or student advocate for Title IX and sexual harassment incidents.

Area-specific Oversight:

Residence Life

  • Coordinates the overall programming and co-curriculum efforts for all residential students, including but not limited to the First-year Experience, the Sophomore Experience programs, and the Junior/Senior Initiatives.
  • Oversees the residence halls opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of each semester and during vacation periods and breaks.
  • Facilitates, recruits and maintains partnership with outside universities to fill two Assistant Resident Director positions with Higher Ed graduate students.
  • Directly supervises two Resident Directors (RDs) – full-time, professional position and supports the RDs in their supervision of two ARDs.
  • Directly supervises student Office Assistants and Summer Assistants.
  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of the Student Life Staff (including the RDs, ARDs, REs, OAs, SAs – 4 professionals and approximately 35 student leaders).
  • Trains live-on professionals to be a part of the Administrator on Duty rotation.
  • Assists with room selection for returning students and room assignment process for new students.
  • Serves in DOD rotation and enforces university and residence hall policies
  • Refer/coordinate with Public Safety as needed.

Commuter Resources

  • Develops, implements, and assesses comprehensive services for commuter students.
  • Oversees the overall use of the commuter spaces and on-campus resources (lounge, lockers, bike racks, etc).
  • Coordinates educational initiatives with other departments on campus, including but not limited to Academic Affairs, other Student Affairs offices, and the Student Success Centers.
  • Maintains relationship with ABM Parking at Station Square for discounted leases for Point Park community.
  • Maintains relationship with Port Authority of Allegheny County.
  • Promotes and notifies commuters of on-campus and off-campus resources.

Study Abroad

  • Maintains existing relationships with international affiliate institutions and assists in the development of new programs when appropriate.
  • Promotes affiliated/non-affiliated/short-term/long-term study abroad opportunities to all students.
  • Coordinates preparatory phases of the study abroad process for each student: application, university approval, course approval, registration, housing, health insurance, etc.
  • Maintains communication with students during their time abroad.
  • Assists students in their re-entry process: registration, housing, debriefing experience, retrieving transcripts, etc.
  • Coordinates payment of affiliate institutions and international partners.
  • Maintains records of faculty-led programs and provides guidance as needed.
