POSITION:                         Director of Residence Life

DEPARTMENT:                Office of Student Life

REPORTS TO:                   Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Student Life

REQUIREMENTS:            Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. 3-5 years in Residence Life or equivalent experiences in Student Affairs.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Directs and coordinates all processes, procedures, and functions of the residence halls. Manages all operations of the residential inventory to maintain safety and superior condition of the inventory as an aid to residential retention. Supervises Resident Directors, Residence Life student staff, and co-supervisors Office Assistants. The position is a required live-on position with emergency and duty responsibilities.

DUTIES:

  1. Oversees the coordination of the overall programming and co-curriculum efforts for all residential students, including but not limited to the First-year Experience, and the Sophomore Experience programs, and the Junior/Senior Initiatives.
  2. Assigns rooms/roommates for all Point Park residential students, summer interns, and summer camp and workshop groups.
  3. Directly supervises two resident directors (RDs) - full-time, professional position - and supports the RDs in their supervision of the resident educators (REs).
  4. Co-supervises student office assistants and summer assistants.
  5. Prepares and monitors operating budgets for the residence halls, in consultation with the Vice President and the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.
  6. Coordinates and implements the room selection process.
  7. Oversees the residence halls opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of each semester and during vacation periods and breaks.
  8. Processes all room change requests.
  9. Oversees the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of the Residence Life staff.
  10. Coordinates the purchasing of all furniture and supplies for the residence halls.
  11. Coordinates the residence hall cleaning and maintenance schedule with the Physical Plant and Housekeeping departments. Assesses condition of inventory and arranges maintenance and housekeeping as needed.
  12. Process all residential and food service contracts and housing deposits.
  13. Provides the Food Service Director with any changes, additions, or deletions to meal plans; as well as the weekly meal counts.
  14. Handles and resolves all student/parent issues related to room selection, room change requests, and maintenance/operation complaints.
  15. Actively recruits summer interns, camp, and workshop groups and processes payments made by these groups. 
  16. Input all information into the Residence Life module of Jenzabar.
  17. Updates, adds, changes, or deletes information to the Residential Life module of Jenzabar.
  18. Oversees the key inventory for the residence halls and student staff with floor submasters. Works with Student Accounts to ensure all residents are financially cleared for the current semester.
  19. Upload miscellaneous changes for all residential student situations.
  20. Prepares reports, forecasts and provides analysis of residential stats and trends for university use; maintains all residential life/occupancy/residential retention statistics on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis; provides all data and analysis as needed.
  21. Reviews and revises the housing and food service contracts in collaboration with all appropriate constituencies.
  22. Updates the Residence Life and the Student Handbooks in consultation with the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.
  23. Trains live-on professionals to be a part of the Administrator on Duty rotation.
  24. Serves in the AOD rotation and enforces university and residence hall policies.
  25. Other duties as assigned.
