POSITION:  Head Coach - Women’s Wrestling

DEPARTMENT:  Athletics

REPORTS TO:  Vice President of Athletics

CLASSIFICATION:  Full-time/Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  The head coach is responsible for directing and administrating all aspects of the Women's Wrestling program including coaching, recruitment, and monitoring the academic progress of student athletes.  Supervises Graduate Assistant Coach.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree in Coaching, Sport/Athletic Management, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Education, or other closely related field
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in coaching
  • Budgeting, planning and computer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the sport through excellence in coaching.
  2. In consultation with the Vice President of Athletics or designee:
    • Select, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches.
    • Manage sport budget.
    • Develop a sport schedule.
  3. Responsible for adhering to and documenting compliance with the policies and regulations of the College, Department of Athletics, and NCAA; responsible for the orientation of student athletes and boosters to these guidelines.
  4. Oversee the conduct and discipline of student athletes.
  5. Plan and implement all practices and competitions.
  6. Meet team specific recruitment goal of student athletes.
  7. Supervise pre-season and post-season conditioning.
  8. Maintain professional conduct at all times.
  9. Situation appropriate professional attire required at all times.
  10. Assist in Department of Athletics fundraising events; including the Annual Pioneer Golf Classic.
  11. Abide by all compliance and regulatory expectations of the department, including but not limited to:
    • Point Park University Athletic compliance.
    • NCAA Division II & Mountain East Conference bylaws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Title IX & CLERY Act Regulations.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITES:

Responsible for knowledge and implementation of NCAA rules and regulations in the areas of amateurism, eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, and awards and benefits. Coaches are expected to fully cooperate and participate in compliance related policies and procedures, within the institution and NCAA guidelines. The Head Coach's responsibilities include:

  • Review NCAA rules with student athletes when necessary and reinforce the importance of compliance.
  • Facilitate the provision of all information necessary to determine prospective student athlete eligibility.
  • Provide complete and accurate expense reports.
  • Provide complete and accurate required information for all official visits.
  • Declare playing and practice seasons and submit to the Associate Director of Athletics for review and approval.
  • Ensure team's compliance with NCAA rules related to playing and practice seasons including weekly athletically-related activity logs.
  • In cooperation with the Vice President of Athletics, monitor the scheduling process, verifying that the schedule meets NCAA and conference scheduling requirements and missed class time policies.
  • Educate student athletes regarding NCAA regulations governing employment.
  • Follow the established process for renewal and non-renewal of athletically-related Financial Aid.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA Bylaws regarding uniform logos, complimentary tickets and summer camps.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Physically active sporting environment, with frequent high intensity activity with coaching.
  • Office work and a significant amount of event planning and coordination.
  • Moderate activity that may include ability lifting and pushing.
  • Frequent evening and weekend hours.
