Job Title:              Graduate Assistant

Department:      Office of Student Affairs

Reports To:        Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students

Award: The Graduate Assistantship (GA) award is equivalent to full-time graduate tuition and fees, plus an hourly rate of $10.00 per hour for an average of 20 hours per week.  Full-time tuition is for nine graduate credits per semester, up to a maximum of 18 graduate credits per year.  Room and board, additional tuition charges, books and incidental costs are not included. This position is for the Fall 2024 semester (September – December) only. The position may be extended an additional three semesters through the Spring 2026 semester, based on job performance, and needs of the department.

In addition, the selected candidate must also be able to work January - August 2024 and May – August 2025 for Pioneer Ambassador training and Pioneer Experience (new student orientation). Pay under part-time temporary employee status for May-August will be $10/hour for an average of 20 hours per week. There is no tuition coverage from May-August.

Requirements: 

  • Applicants for the assistantship must be qualified for admission or have been admitted into a graduate or doctoral program and must commit to enrolling as a full-time degree candidate, and must remain full-time throughout the term of appointment, which is a minimum of nine (9) graduate credits per term
  • Both United States citizens and international students are eligible to apply
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA in undergraduate major; 3.25 GPA overall preferred
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills; graphic design software skills not required, but are a plus
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills
  • Ability to work alone and as a member of a team including with faculty and staff throughout the university community
  • Must be able to complete assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Work an average of twenty hours per week, generally Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends; flexible work schedule is required, and work may be required during academic holiday periods
  • Applicants must be able to work January - August 2024 and May – August 2025 to execute Pioneer Ambassador training and Pioneer Experience (new student orientation)
  • Knowledge of needs and concerns of first-year and transfer students and previous leadership position(s) within a club or organization during undergraduate career preferred

Primary duties: 

  • Supervise the Pioneer Ambassador Chair, the Pioneer Ambassador Coordinators (PACs), the Pioneer Ambassadors (PAs), and the Pioneer Ambassadors Leadership Support (PALS)
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and training of Chair, PACs, PAs, and PALS
  • Design and edit various publication pieces
  • As needed, provide support in the development and implementation of programs and services to all areas of Student Affairs, which currently include:
    • Athletics
    • Accessibility Services
    • Office of Student Affairs
      • Family Weekend
      • Pioneer Experience (New student orientation)
      • Domestic group travel
      • Student Health Insurance Plan
    • Office of Student Life, which includes
      • Residence Life
      • Commuter Resources
      • SAIL (Student Activities, Involvement, and Leadership)
      • Health Services
      • Study Abroad and international group travel
      • Veteran Services
    • Professional Career Readiness Center
    • University Advising Center
      • Student Conduct
  • Conduct research on assigned topics
  • Assist in planning, marketing, and carrying out scheduled events and programs, on and off campus
  • Provide administrative support for the Office of Student Affairs as needed; Support may be needed for the daily operation of the office
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
