"Not all forensic science programs emphasize as much science as we do in the forensic science program at Point Park University. Adding to that, we teach hands-on laboratories and offer crime scene house activities that have the closest simulation to real crime scenes we can produce."

Edward Strimlan, M.D.

Why is forensic science a resilient career field, even during challenging times like the current COVID-19 pandemic?

Death does not stop during a disaster or pandemic. People are still dying every day by homicide, suicide, accident and natural causes. Although we can shelter in place, we can't stop the world from happening. Forensic units everywhere are still involved in processing death and death scenes and often they are the forgotten front line responders.

What makes Point Park’s forensic science program unique?

Our forensic science major revolves around science — something that has been a hot topic recently. Not all forensic science programs emphasize as much science as we do in the forensic science program at Point Park University.

Adding to that, we teach hands-on laboratories and offer crime scene house activities that have the closest simulation to real crime scenes we can produce.

With my field experience, working over 2,000 death scene investigations, I give my students an in-depth understanding of real-life practice.

What should prospective students know about being a forensic science major at Point Park?

Every forensic major has the opportunity to not only graduate with a major in forensic science, but also minors in biology and chemistry. Additionally, you will also have the needed course load to take the MCATs for a M.D. degree if you wish or the skillset to work in any laboratory setting from government to private to research.

Our classes in the forensic science program are all small with 16 people or less. The Forensic Science Club at Point Park is an opportunity to connect with other students on campus through the club's activities while sharing internship and job openings with each other. I always tell my students to learn from the students ahead of you and discover where they are finding opportunities.

Where have graduates of your program landed internships and careers?

Our forensic science grads have landed internships and careers with the following organizations, among others.
