Officers Connor Finch and Yovanny Ramirez from the Ocean City Police Department recently met with several criminal justice and forensic science classes at Point Park University to discuss the various career-related summer opportunities with OCPD available to students.

Edward Strimlan, M.D., associate professor and coordinator of the forensic science program, told the students: “Taking advantage of opportunities like this will set you and your resume apart from other candidates when you are applying for jobs.”

According to Finch and Ramirez, OCPD is looking to hire approximately 75 police officers, 50 public safety aides and 20 and communications operator positions this summer.

“This paid summer program is a wonderful opportunity for students to have a chance to try out their anticipated career while spending their time in a beach-vacation like environment. It is a rare chance to experience your future career while still attending school. Dr. Strimlan works very hard each year to set this up and deserves thanks from all involved,” explained Richard Linzer, J.D., associate professor and director of the M.S. in criminal justice administration program.

Junior criminal justice major Alyssa Harris is considering the opportunity.

“From the Ocean City Police Department presentation, I learned that this I could earn college internship credits through this experience, as well as get my foot in the door for my future career. I want to get experience as soon as possible and see what it is like to be a police officer,” said Harris, a graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Forensic science alumni Jordan Cook-Henry, Gillian Stinson and Mindy Vivio are among those from Point Park who gained valuable experience working in the summer for the Ocean City Police Department.
