Why did you choose Point Park University?
I chose Point Park because I knew from its atmosphere that it would be a place where I could flourish professionally and personally. I knew I would be able to network and build a community with other creative minds, and I could be my most authentic self here, out in the open and free.
What do you like about Point Park's creative writing program?
What I love most about the creative writing program is learning from and having access to professors who have worked in my chosen field. The program opens the door to building a strong foundation as a writer. It has allowed me to strengthen where I excel in my writing and opened my eyes to areas for improvement.

Tell us about some of your favorite faculty members and courses.
Sarah Perrier, Ph.D., and Angelo Gargaro, are two of my favorite professors. Professor Gargaro taught City-University Life my freshman year and had a significant, positive impact on me. He helped me feel welcomed and appreciated here on campus, and he has continued to mentor me throughout my college career. We have had coffee meet-ups a few times since my freshman year to catch up on life and make sure I stay on track. Dr. Perrier, who taught my poetry workshop courses, has a vibrant personality and helped me think about life beyond college to determine the next steps for my career. She also shares my passions for poetry and cats.
What do you enjoy about being involved in the creative writing club, Name Pen(ding)?
I love being involved with the creative writing club because it exposes me to so many different types of writing genres and styles. I joined the club freshman year, and many of the members at the time were creative writing majors who were further along in their education. I admired them so much. I remember thinking they were so cool and full of experiences that went beyond the pages they read or even wrote on themselves. The club offered a close community to me early in my Point Park career, and now that I'm club president, I want to provide that same experience for current and future members.
How is Point Park preparing you for career success?
Point Park has prepared me to trust my writing and go outside of my own understanding of what I've written. I have learned through all of my workshops at Point Park that while not everyone will understand the original intent of my writing, they may imagine a different meaning that I haven't even thought of yet. I recommend Point Park not only for students interested in creative writing, but for any student who is interested in the arts.
