English Program Director Elected President of Rotary Club of Pittsburgh Friday, July 26, 2013
P.K. Weston, Ed.D., professor of composition and literature and director of the English program at Point Park University, has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. She is only the fourth woman to be elected president in the organization's 101-year history.
Weston has been involved with the Rotary Club for more than 10 years, serving in a variety of positions including chair of the scholarship committee and a member of the engagement committee, women's forum and Chuck Tanner Manager of the Year committee.
"Volunteerism is part of my personal ethic. I think it's the right thing to do," said Weston. "In general, I am involved in activities that serve those who don't have much of a voice in the world such as children, animals and adults whose life experiences prevent them from having that voice."
In addition to the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh, Weston volunteers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Focus on Renewal and Golden Retrievers in Need. Weston is also a senior reviewer and curriculum advisor for The College Board and has worked on a variety of national projects coordinated by the Educational Policy Improvement Center in Portland, Ore.
Weston earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Jacksonville State University and her doctoral degree from Clemson University.
