Pablito Uri

Pioneer Records has chosen their ninth Pioneer Star — Pablito Uri (real name: Pablo Javier Uribasterra).

Uri is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter and native of Miami, Fla., studying theatre arts at Point Park University. Alternative and jazz-funk are the two genres that Uri attaches to his work. His main influences stem from Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Brittany Howard and Bruno Mars. An accomplished pianist and vocalist, some of his music, such as his album ‘Quinceanera,' his EP ‘Pablo in the Tropics’ and multiple singles, can already be found on music platforms.

In 2015, Point Park University established their student-operated record label, Pioneer Records. Pioneer Records holds a regional music competition each year and selects a talented student-musician to be the Pioneer Star of that school year. The Pioneer Star receives a three-song EP to be recorded at Red Caiman Studios, a CD Release Party at the Club at Stage AE, custom artwork created by the staff, a music video which is a collaboration between the Sports, Arts & Entertainment Management Department and the Cinema Department at Point Park and future booking experiences. Due to pandemic safety concerns some of these events may be adjusted.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to share my music with a bigger audience and work with music professionals, students and faculty to create art and reach new listeners," said Uri.

Uri’s music can be found on his YouTube channel
